Welcome to the 69th annual Hawai’i Regional Bridge Tournament. The tournament is organized by the Hawai’i Contract Bridge Units Association (HCBUA) – an association with representation from the three American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) units located in Hawai’i, which include Unit 469 (Hawaii Island), Unit 470 (Oahu and Kauai), and Unit 471 (Maui County).

We are delighted to once again partner with the beautiful Prince Waikiki to provide you the best tournament possible. The hotel has provided us with a discounted rate for self-parking: 12 hours for $8. If you are one of the 3-session a day players it would be wise for you to leave the parking lot and pay the $8.00 and come back again to get another ticket. If your stay runs over 12 hours the hotel will charge you $10.00 an hour for every hour after that.

We have made several schedule changes this year, at least partially to accommodate players: we are starting all the afternoon sessions a little later and have moved some events around to encourage more morning games. Please consult the schedules we will have available for details. We hope you will enjoy the changes.

This year a number of the events have been named in honor of local teachers and players who have made tremendous contributions to bridge in our community. For example, the Sunday Swiss Teams event has been named in honor of Tom Lum, who led HCBUA for decades and was instrumental in its becoming a strong organization.

If you have any suggestions or would like to discuss anything regarding the regional or the association please ask for any of the HCBUA directors: Jim Cheney, Gay Conklin, Lily Johannessen, Glenn Mason, Jack Patnode, Mary Phillips, Arun Savara or Larry Denneau.
Mahalo for joining us for the 69th Hawaii Regional! Yes, we really began this event in 1951.
-Glenn Mason, President HCBUA
